With Coveo’s announcement this month of its launch of Coveo for Sitecore: Advanced Search Edition, it seems like a good time to poke around the search arena — and into Sitecore.

Enriching Search Experience

But first, a bit about the Sitecore-Coveo partnership. Coveo officials are calling it a “powerful application for contextual Website search, content federation and personalization.” It integrates with the underlying structure of the Sitecore WCM platform.

Asked what distinguishes Coveo’s/Sitecore’s search capabilities from competitors, a Coveo official told CMSWire it’s the ability to connect, enrich and visualize during the search process.

The application, Coveo claims, ensures more relevant information and products are surfaced to the visitor faster, resulting in higher conversion rates, improved self-service and greater visitor satisfaction.

Sitecore: Partnerships and Recognition

Sitecore has made plenty of waves lately, and from our analysis it is definitely trending in the Web CMS space. Just last month, Sitecore announced it bought e-commerce vendor commerceserver.net. Sitecore’s integration into the commerceserver.net (Commerce Server) e-commerce engine allows it to offer customers a  complete CXM platform with fully integrated c-commerce capabilities.

In the latest Gartner Magic Quadrant for Web Content Management, Sitecore remained at the top, alongside Adobe, SDL, Oracle, HP and OpenText.

Sitecore’s shift lately has been more toward marketing, and its multilingual and device simulation abilities were cited as strengths.

This is in tune with the fact that Coveo, in its search functions, is expecting marketers to get more use out of the development of its search parameters to better help customers reach their desired content. The goal is to get marketers developing search parameters without the help of developers, and Coveo said its functions do that.

Coveo’s new offering is integrated with Sitecore Customer Engagement Platform 7, built exclusively on .Net technologies and fully embedded within Sitecore’s Search Provider framework. Marketers configure and manage Coveo Search & Relevance Technology from within familiar page and content editors.

Enterprise Search Market Reshaping

Although Coveo and Sitecore’s partnership is about web search, it’s noteworthy to look into the enterprise search market. Gartner says the entire market is being re-shaped as the demand for better consumer experiences is forcing vendors to respond with new strategies and products.

Since 2007, the market has grown at a compound rate of 11.7 percent annually and was worth about $ 1.7 billion last year, with 2013’s final figure expected to be around $ 1.9 billion despite economic conditions.
